--- 11-17-01 Federation Meet.Results. Pictures. The Pleasantville XC season finally ended on Saturday when, for the first time in known history, there was Panther representation in the prestigious and intensely competitive Federation Meet. This contest -- which always comes the week after the State Champs -- drops all distinctions based on school classes (size) and includes all public, private, parochial, upstate and NYC schools. It is a cross country "battle royale" to which the top runners receive bids to compete in one huge race. At this year’s Federations, more than 250 girls crowded the narrow, mountainous paths of Bowdoin Park. Based upon performances at last week’s State Champs, a total of 28 runners from Section I were selected to run. Three Section I schools were picked to compete as teams (7 runners each) – Arlington (I-AA), Suffern (I-AA) and Bronxville (I-C). In addition, 7 “at large” Section I girls made the cut, coming from Tappan Zee (Graney and Miller-Bidell), Ursuline (Sullivan and Brown), North Rockland (Gamboli) and Pleasantville (Lazare). Libby improved upon her Bowdoin Park Sectional Champs Run by finishing in 19:57, and -- as was the case at last week's State Champs -- was the top finisher among participating Section I-C runners. She crossed the line ahead of Bronxville's 7 runners, and was 8th among the 28 combined class Section I runners. Overall she finished 65th out of the 265 qualifiers. The team title went to Fayetville-Manilus from the Syracuse area – last year's number one ranked XC team in the United States. Emily Lipari, a very impressive sophomore from Rosyln (Long Island), repeated her feat from State Champs by taking the overall Federations crown. The participating athletes were awe-inspiring; it was a fun race to watch. GREAT SEASON PANTHERS!!
-- 11-10-07 -- NYS Championships -- Lazare Medals; Finishes 8th out of 132 Class C Qualifiers; Is Top Finisher Among All Section I-C runners. Pictures, Armory Video & Full Results. For more news, click here. The below-freezing tempatures did not stop Coach Luke and Becky from making the long journey to the Canadian border for the 2007 NYS Championships, and their support paid off well. Panther Green was right up front. Libby medaled by placing 8th in the field of 132 qualifiers from around the State. The biggest surprise was that she finished first among the Section One qualifiers, fighting past Bronxville's talented Section I champ in the last 20 yards of the race. Needless to say, everybody in the North Country could hear Luke's voice. This finish earned Pleasantville representation at next Saturday's Federation Meet (Bowdoin Park, Wappinger Falls). Libby was picked by the NYSPHSAA to run in this year's big event; so it's one more week with Coach Luke. Special thanks to our friends from Dobbs Ferry for their kind words! On the DF XC Site, they generously note "the story of the day was Pleasantville's Libby Lazare (and Dobbs 5k winner and adopted Eagle) who finished in an astounding 19:23 for 8th place to top all Section 1-C runners." This is high praise, coming from the team that produced this year's Section 1-C breakout runner, Dobbs' sophomore Patrick Wortner (Section I-C runner up & State Qualifier). Congrats to Pat on his fine performance at Sectionals and States. Section I-C has some great years ahead!

Teammates Natasha Chapovalova (17), Sarah McGovern (19), Diana Phethean (22) and Liz Proehl (35) again did their part by turning multiple personal bests. This third place finish is a considerable climb from last year's meet, where the girls finished 7th of 8 Class C teams. Bronxville was, again, the winning team, bringing in the top three runners. The boys finished in 8th place, led by Mike Sandusky, Mike Phillips, Seth Aschen, Garek Berard, and Eddie Reilingh.
